SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL PAT MEMBERS, FRIENDS, FACILITIES AND INTERESTED PARTIES

FOR THE TIMES – THEY ARE A-CHANGING!

4th February 2013

Dear PAT Members, Present and Past Supporters

PETS AS THERAPY – TEMPORARY SUSPENSION OF OPERATIONS

PAT has established an 11 year history here in South Africa, built on the commitment and dedication of its members and EXCO representatives. The organisation has grown in leaps and bounds, and gained significant respect among the communities and facilities that it serves. And yet, PAT still remains an NPO run exclusively by volunteers.

As a registered NPO (non-profit organisation) PAT is required to function under the rules and regulations governing such bodies, and observe compliance to retain its official status. This has proven to be an ever-increasing challenge during the past few years; the obligation of good governance and sustainability is an enormous responsibility for so few and as a result, official compliance has taken a severe knock.

We therefore regret that a decision has been reached to temporarily suspend all PAT operations until further notice.

However --- all is not lost!

But it is high time for CHANGE. The aim is to appoint an interim caretaker team specifically to revamp and revive the status of PAT, by selecting a brand new EXCO, made up exclusively of persons with the relevant skills, experience, expertise and commitment, who will oversee the way forward. These CHANGES (improvements) will include modernised management, administration, fundraising and operations structures –with particular focus on making PAT a more efficient and sustainable entity.

We would welcome hearing from anyone interested in taking on EXCO responsibilities (Chairman, Secretary, etc.), or managing one of the  support functions such as membership & facilities liaison, area coordination, fundraising and events, assessments/placements/mentorships, website communications, etc.  And personal recommendations are also welcome if you know of someone who would like to make a meaningful contribution. Please contact us at the e-mail address shown.

How will this affect you?

For those who wish to continue their visits, you are welcome to do so, but not under the auspices of PAT until further notice. You are therefore advised to ensure that your own public liability insurance policy is in place.

If you are a potential new member, please be patient! Your interest will not be overlooked and you will also be advised of new developments that will enable you to join PAT in the not-too-distant-future.

Facilities management are advised that it is the sole intention of PAT to have authorised PAT visitors back enriching lives through animal companionship as quickly as possible.

The interim caretaker team will be convening over the next few months to revitalise PAT from scratch, and you will be notified of future progress.

Kindly acknowledge receipt of this notification to above e-mail address shown above ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. ).

Sincerely

2012 PAT EXCO
